Meet Our Golf Professional Staff

At Haworth Country Club, our golf program is led by an experienced and dynamic team committed to player development at every level. Under the leadership of Director of Golf, Chip Ranco, our professional staff offers unmatched instruction, innovation, and passion for the game.

Chip Ranco – Director of Golf
Chip, a PGA Member for over 35 years, brings decades of experience and a deep passion for the game to his role as Director of Golf at Haworth Country Club. Originally from Maine, Chip has built a distinguished career across Florida and New England, and has been instrumental in shaping the golf experience at Haworth.

In his current role, Chip oversees all golf operations and programming, including instruction, leagues, junior golf, PGA Jr. League, and golf outings. He also plays a key role in membership development, welcoming new members and leading retention efforts to help build a strong and connected golf community.  A PGA Certified Professional in both Coaching & Teaching and Player Development, Chip is also a Top 50 US Kids Instructor and has been nationally recognized for his dedication to junior golf. He launched Haworth’s Junior Golf Program over a decade ago and has continued to grow it into a leading program in the region.

Chip uses Flightscope technology and video swing analysis to deliver precise, personalized instruction. He is also a highly experienced club fitter, working with all major equipment brands including Callaway, Titleist, TaylorMade, Srixon, and more.  Whether helping beginners get started or fine-tuning advanced players, Chip’s expertise, energy, and commitment to excellence make him a driving force behind Haworth’s golf culture.


Mark Thornewell – Director of Instruction
Mark is a PGA Member and Cleveland/Srixon staff professional with a lifelong passion for the game. Originally from Kent, England, Mark moved to the U.S. in 2003 and now resides locally with his wife and three children. He began playing competitive golf at the age of 7 and has been dedicated to the sport ever since.

Mark holds a Golf Degree from Buckinghamshire New University and brings a diverse background in instruction and golf operations. Over the years, he has worked at several respected private clubs along the East Coast and in Florida, and successfully owned a golf and tennis franchise for seven years, focused on youth development in Rockland and Westchester counties.  After leading that successful venture, Mark transitioned into a leadership role as Head Golf Professional and now serves as Director of Instruction. Mark oversees and shapes all aspects of the club’s junior programming, helping to build one of the strongest youth golf cultures in the region.

Mark has led numerous competitive junior teams, earned multiple accolades for junior instruction, and continues to be recognized for his success in developing young players. Most notably, he and Chip Ranco guided Haworth’s PGA Jr. League team to the National Championship, a proud milestone for the club’s junior program.

Joe Tamarkin – Head Golf Professional
Joe, Head Golf Professional at Haworth Country Club, graduated from the Golf Academy of America in Carlsbad, California in 2014 with an Associate of Applied Business degree in Golf Complex Management. He joined the Haworth team in 2023, bringing with him a wealth of experience from a variety of respected golf clubs across California, Florida, New York, and Nevada.

Joe is a well-rounded professional with a deep background in all aspects of golf operations. He is particularly skilled in merchandising and tournament administration, and also enjoys teaching, especially when it comes to the short game and the mental side of golf.  A passionate player, Joe won the 2018 SCPGA A.P.A. Championship with an impressive round of 66 and continues to compete when time allows.
Outside of golf, Joe enjoys fishing and spending time with his fiancĂ©e, Alexa, and their dog, Pesto.
